Knitting at the Lake

Only 2 more days till Knitting at the Lake in Clarksville, Virginia. 50 knitters, yarn, one hotel, knitting needles, one big conference room, yarn, snacks, beverages, yarn, patterns, vendors, yarn - sounds like the making of a great weekend! I am planning on dining here one evening and keeping it simple the rest of the time.

Insane? I don't think so!

In case you ever wondered, in the late 1800's there were 125 reasons you might be admitted to an insane asylum... any of these look familiar to you? Fortunately, getting hit from behind (in your buggy?) is not one of them!

On the dog front, nothing is new! Tippy is recuperating from her aural hematoma, slowly, and everyone else is doing good. Jetta & Joe are wrestling right now, Tico is trying to nap and Miss Piggy is doing old dog stuff (snuffling on the floor eating dust or whatever she can find).

We are all still trying to get over the accident. The other driver was unlicensed (and hence uninsured) and the police report indicates that we flipped over twice before sliding quite a distance and stopping just short of the jersey wall in the middle of the highway.

Knitting - I have a new FO but can't post here due to possible readership by recipient (will put on Ravelry though when I get a chance b/c she does not go there). I have an almost FO for moi - almost b/c I ran out of yarn (gasp) and the color is discontinued (Noro Silk Garden #203). I found 2 skeins on Ravelry and the owner is willing to swap for 2 skeins of something I have so all is good; she's even a fellow Virginian! The project is one I had with me in the car (read accident) and I am looking forward to completing it and using it over the holidays.

Take care all and keep an eye in the rear view mirror for unlicensed, drunk, illegal aliens coming up fast behind you!

Quizzical? Nah...!

You Are a Dachshund Puppy

Loyal and playful - with a good hunting instinct.

You sometimes go a little crazy and need to chase down a rabbit or two.

I had not taken one of these online quizzes in a while and this one appealed to me for some reason (go figure, right?).

Knitting - oh yes - Christmas is just 40 days away and I hope I'll be ready. I am knitting up several things that I can't really talk about because the recipients may be reading along - let's just say that I have probably bitten off more than I can chew. By the way, does anybody have a pattern for an XBox 360? I figured not, unfortunately. I guess I'll have to find another way to procure one!

River City Knitters meets this morning. I missed last month, so I am looking forward to seeing folks I don't see or talk with often. Today we are going to get a tutorial on knitted edgings - something I have not really explored yet. I need to finish my swatch so that I will have something to knit an edge on, so I better get going.

Wet Wednesday here in Richmond

I woke up to dripping trees and wet leaves on the deck ... it's supposed to clear off --> in a day or three!!

Our homework for the AACS this week is to visit some other blogs and write a thing or two about someone whose blog you liked. I have been popping in on other members of the swap anyway so that was not a hard assignment! Since I had not visited everyone's blog yet, I dropped by Jill's Journeys and loved her mini Christmas widget - so much so that it now adorns the right side of my blog too! If you scroll down on Jill's page and see her kitty's photo (on the left side, down a bit), you'll see that hers looks a lot like Domino, my fussy puss.

I left her a comment, as instructed by our leader in coffee goodness, AM - this is fun. Thanks for letting me participate in this project!

Daily Posting?

I just read somewhere that we're supposed to post daily... whew... have I dropped the ball (of yarn)?! Yes, I guess I have. Actually, no because I have been knitting, but I haven't been writing about it. This morning I felted some Christmas presents - yes plural - so I better not say what right now, but it was good to finish some things!

Thanksgiving day was lovely - my sister and her husband had us over. Also, uncle, wife and 2 of 3 grown daughters. It was smallish (just 11 of us), comfortable and oh so delicioso! My sis is a lovely cook and dining with them is always a pleasure. Her tables are pretty, her food is wonderful and she always makes everyone feel welcome. Can't beat any of that, at any price.

Friday evening was good too --- drove out to Hanover to W's - present were her, me and her Mom. W's daughter called and, when informed that me and grandma were there eating spaghetti and watching holiday movies, she jumped in the car and drove out too! It was fun. I knitted, we ate, I knitted some more and then had to head home (23 miles, 30 minutes, door to door).

I have not uploaded photos yet of this weekend's activities, but will post when do, ok?

Happy Thanksgiving all -- I hope everyone is as thankful and grateful for what they have as I am.

Hi - I'm back ....

I didn't really go anywhere and I tried to post but evidently Blogger has had a cold or something because I could not get on and upload photos or post anything...

So, much to catch up on. We had a shower for Amy

back on Oct. 23 and she has since had her newest bundle of joy - who is now almost 10 days!

On October 27 I was happily allowed to go to Berryville to the 2nd Annual Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival with Robin and Ray ... you can see photos here. We had a wonderful time. We visited the animals, looked at all the cool fibery fun (ask Ray about his new hobby), and then visited the old mill in Millwood on the out. Photos of the mill are in the above set. We stopped in Warrenton and dined at McMahon's Irish Pub - that was good fun and very delicious. I drank my first ever Smithwick's and ... i'm a beliver!

I have been knitting up a storm and finished several hats for little folks (babies, including my cousin's new son Kullen) as well as Christmas presents.... better not post a photo here - don't want to spoil anything for anyone...!

We held a small party for Jon on October 30 to celebrate his new job! He brought show and tell on November 6 so we could see some of what he purchased with the gift certificate we presented him with.

DRNA / knitting

Yesterday I participated in something I enjoyed. Now some of you may find it odd, so just bear in mind that diversity is what makes life interesting, ok? I was leg 9 in a rescue hand off .... huh? Dachshund Rescue N.A. (DRNA) had 2 doxie boys to place who needed rides northward from Alabama. I met the 2 little fellas on I95 just south of Richmond and drove them to just south of Fred'burg. The couple I met at Thornburg were handing one boy off to another driver to get on his way to his forever home, but were keeping the 9 month old chocolate boy as a foster - to see if they wanted to adopt him! They were a nice young couple, and I am excited for them. It is such a nice feeling to deliver rescued dogs to new homes. I don't have any photos, despite the fact that my camera rode with me up and back... in the excitement of the meet ups I just forgot to grab it. Oh well.

Best of luck to Sam and Petey!

Oh, I almost forgot - the mommie lap afghan is coming along - I am about 90% done!

Hokie Hope Blankets

Above are photos of TNK sewing 8"x8" squares together to make a blanket for one of the victims of the 4-16-07 shooting at Tech. Many of our members made squares for the effort, but all said that actually sewing together the squares that have come from all over the United States and the world really made us feel like we contributed to the healing process. I loved it and would be happy to do more if needed.

Monday Monday

Today is my sister and her hubby's 24th anniversary - Happy Anniversary, sister & bro-in-law!

Today is also a Monday ... and got rain, too ... at least it was not hot - only about 80 around 5:30 pm.

Below is a link to the TNK group site - you can see photos of some folks, some pets, and some finished projects - many of the ladies are shy about posting objects ... I wish they'd post more and perhaps they will sometime. Looking forward to visiting tomorrow night with the girls.

School is almost out for this school year ... Tom's into exams now --- countdown is 4 more days.

She's baaack

Jumping back in, I am hoping to work on this blogging thing - I want to share and this is a really wonderful way to do it. I have been reading blogs written by friends and want to do it well also. Big shoes to fill, there.
Someone at knitting tonight (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Southside_Knitters/) asked me "Oh, no, do you have a blog, too?!" Funny. Lots to learn.
